The November 2004 rotary rig count was 1,262, 2 percent
higher than the count in October 2004 and 14 percent
higher than the count in November 2003. Of the total
number of rigs in operation, 1,160 were onshore and 102
were offshore. For November 2004, the number of
onshore rigs was up 15 percent but the number of offshore
rigs was down 4 percent from the November 2003 count.
Rotary rigs drilling for natural gas as a share of total rigs
stood at 85 percent in November 2004.
